The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) encourages the pursuit of excellence in broadcasting and video production by recognizing the outstanding achievements by high school students through its Student Production Awards.
The Wireless Foundation™ Announces 2016 Drive Smart:
This month, The Wireless Foundation ™ launched the second year of its Drive Smart: No Distractions, No Excuses Teen Digital Short Contest. The competition challenges students ages 13-18 to create a digital short to persuade their peers to not drive while distracted.
The contest runs from October 15 to December 15, 2015. The grand prize is a $5,000 scholarship, and the teacher/mentor prize of $500. Two runners-up will each win a $1,000 scholarship; their teachers/mentors will each win $250. Three semifinalists will each win a $500 scholarship; their teachers/mentors will each win $100. State winners (up to 2 per state) will be awarded $100 each.
“The Drive Smart program is an important way to remind students as well as parents and the community about the importance of safe driving behavior,” says Athena Polydorou, Executive Director of The Wireless Foundation ™.
The Wireless Foundation™ partnered with By Kids For Kids to create the Drive Smart campaign. Teachers, parents, students and community leaders can download activities and information on the dangers of driving while distracted at www.DriveSmartNow.com.
“Winning last year was important to me because too many of my friends put themselves at risk by driving distracted,” says 2015 winner Gillian Annis of Cypress, California. “I wanted to remind them in a meaningful and direct digital short on what could happen by making one mistake and how it could change their entire life.”
